Best Iceland Cruise from Reykjavik: Why We Chose Viking

So, you’re thinking about cruising Iceland? Oh, you’re in for a treat—glaciers, puffins, hot springs, and some of the most jaw-dropping landscapes you’ll ever see. Now, if you’re like me and want to actually enjoy your vacation without getting caught in the chaos of a giant cruise ship, let me introduce you to Viking Ocean Cruises.

This cruise is a total game-changer—small ship, all-inclusive perks, and Viking even handles your airport-to-ship transfers so you can focus on what really matters: having the time of your life.

Let me tell you why this was one of the smoothest, chillest trips I’ve ever taken—and why you need to get yourself on board ASAP.

1. All-Inclusive Everything—No Surprise Bills Here

Listen, no one wants to budget every time they grab a glass of wine or sign up for a tour. With Viking, everything’s included—meals, drinks (yes, wine and beer at lunch and dinner), Wi-Fi, and one guided tour at every destination.

And get this—airfare is included too. They even cover airport transfers. You’ll step off the plane, and boom, Viking’s got you. No taxis, no shuttle guesswork. Just stress-free travel, start to finish.

It’s like Viking took one look at our collective vacation anxiety and said, “Nah, we got this.”

2. Small Ship = Big Vibes

If you’ve ever been on one of those giant cruise ships, you know the drill: long buffet lines, crowded decks, and pool chairs that mysteriously vanish by 8 AM. Viking? None of that nonsense.

Their ocean ships are intentionally smaller—which means no racing to snag a spot at breakfast or dodging DJs blasting ‘90s techno. It’s peaceful, relaxing, and ridiculously scenic. Every chair has a perfect view, and the whole vibe feels more like a boutique hotel floating through the North Atlantic.

Plus, fewer people means more personal service—which, let’s be honest, is exactly what you deserve.

3. Smooth Airport-to-Ship Transfers—Because I’m Not Wrestling Luggage on My Watch

You know that awkward in-between part of travel where you land and have to figure out how to get from the airport to wherever you’re staying? Not with Viking. They handle everything.

From Keflavik Airport straight to the ship and back again at the end of the cruise, they make it seamless. You just show up, hand off your luggage, and boom—you’re on vacation mode. I can’t stress enough how much of a win this is.

There’s no “Wait, do I need to tip this shuttle driver?” moment. Just smooth, classy travel.

4. One Included Tour at Every Port—Exploring Without the Overwhelm

Iceland is packed with things to see, and Viking makes sure you don’t miss the best of it. At each destination, there’s a included tour—whether it’s exploring a charming fishing village, chasing waterfalls in Akureyri, or wandering Reykjavik’s colorful streets.

And if you’re feeling extra adventurous? Viking offers optional excursions (think whale watching or glacier hiking) if you want to go all-in. But honestly, the included tours are so good you might not even need the extras.

5. Relaxation, but Make It Fancy

After a day spent exploring geysers and fjords, you’ll come back to the ship ready to unwind—and Viking makes sure you do it in style. Their ships are like a Scandinavian daydream—sleek design, cozy lounges, and even heated floors in the bathroom (because cold feet are so not invited).

There’s a thermal spa on board (this is an extra fee but well worth the cost! You will never be the same after experiencing the heated lounger), and I’m not saying the Explorers’ Lounge with panoramic views and cocktails will change your life, but… it might.

This isn’t your average vacation; this is luxury that feels effortless.

So, Is This the Cruise for You? Absolutely.

If you want a quiet, hassle-free, and beautifully curated way to experience Iceland, Viking is the way to go. No noisy crowds, no overwhelming itineraries—just smooth sailing and unforgettable views. Viking is an adults only cruise line. You must be 21 before the sale date. This is a great trip for the adults in the family, a couples trip or a girls trip!

Whether you’re looking to decompress from work, knock Iceland off your bucket list, or just escape for a while, this cruise will have you living your best life without lifting a finger.

So, grab your favorite travel buddy, pack that cozy sweater, and get ready to cruise Iceland the right way. Trust me—Viking gets it.

Bon voyage, my friend!

A few helpful tips

  • Tip Number One: You will most likely have one full day in Reykjavik after you arrive. Take the first day to rest and get adjusted from the jet lag. It’s real… plan for the worst hangover of your life. Day two can be for exploring the town before you take off. You can always add the extension on either side of the trip if you really want the extra time there.
  • Tip Number Two: Give the included excursions a try for sure. These are not cheap ones because they want you to buy the other options. All excursions are great on Viking. They always send a Viking representative on the excursions to ensure things go smoothly. The only reason to do the paid ones is if you want a second one for the day or you don’t think you will enjoy the included ones.
  • Two Number Three: Definitely pack in layers. Although July is their warm season it still can be very rainy and cold. Their high season is a typical fall weather for most of us. On a great sunny day you will only need a light jacket. But if it is cloudy and windy you for sure need something warmer!
